Inclusive Excellence Soft Kick Off

Wed, November 15, 2017
1:00 PM – 2:30 PM
Columbia City Hall
Conference Room 1A/1B
701 E Broadway
Columbia, MO 65201

In August, Dr. Kevin McDonald – UM System’s first ever Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer – shared the Inclusive Excellence framework with our business community. Many business and organization leaders answered the call to participate in the work required to implement the framework within your organizations.

The Inclusive Excellence Framework reaffirms a commitment to growing and sustaining a diverse and inclusive working environment. The framework is designed to help integrate diversity and quality efforts. As a model, Inclusive Excellence incorporates diversity efforts into the core of organizational functioning to realize the benefits of diversity.

DAP – Columbia is working in partnership with our Corporate Partners,
UM System and MU Inclusion, Diversity and Equity to provide you with the tools and training needed to begin the work.

At our Soft Kick Off, we will start with an introductory session to familiarize you with each of the five dimensions of the framework to ensure understanding and provide direction:

  • Access & Success
  • Training & Education
  • Community Engagement
  • Organizational Climate & Intergroup Relations
  • Organizational Infrastructure

This is our first step toward the change we want to see within our organizations and community as a whole!

Diversity Awareness Partnership – Columbia is committed to strengthening our community by facilitating important and difficult discussions on race relations and unconscious bias. Our hope is that we collectively work toward a more inclusive Columbia by talking to one another, learning more about communities we have limited exposure to, and bridging our divides through awareness and education.

DAP – Columbia is offering FREE Listen.Talk.Learn: Dialogue Across Difference sessions to convene members of the community, so that we can start our collective process. Any individual or group interested in learning how to navigate difficult dialogue on race relations and unconscious bias are encouraged to register for this training.

Attendees will leave the training with the following information:

  • Differences between Debate vs Dialogue
  • Facilitation Tips and Strategies
  • Strategies for answering difficult and polarizing questions about race, racism, and bias
